3x Passion
Matthew Montequin
As a Planning and Allocation Analyst for Van Hessen, my work consists of analyzing the supply and demand for our natural casings. My focus is on the products we source in and sell from the U.S. I consult on this with my colleagues worldwide within Van Hessen. Before I started here, I had no idea that the supply chain was so extensive. We forecast for months ahead. The goal is to ensure that supply and demand are seamlessly matched, and that we have the required products in the right place at the right time. So, we analysts look for answers to questions that have not yet been asked. As a numbers guy, I love the challenge that comes with that. But I’m equally passionate about visualizing the data to help our colleagues make informed decisions.

I’ve been working since 2001 with Van Hessen Belgium’s predecessor, De Winter Natural Casings, in the city of Lokeren. As a Management Assistant, I am the right-hand person of Managing Director André de Winter. Because of the small size of our administrative team, I’ve always been a jack-of-all trades, the spider at the center of the web to ensure that everything goes smoothly: from administration to purchasing, from shipments to billing. I work together with wonderful colleagues to ensure that the data of all departments is processed correctly, and that casings leave our facility on time to be shipped to the countries where they will be selected. We will always check a bill twice. Everything needs to be in top shape. That is passion as well. It is naturally part of who we are, but it has also grown through the years as we are aware how important the continuity of the process is.

I joined Van Hessen Brazil, in 2012, as a forklift driver. I still enjoy doing this, but nowadays, as a Stock Leader, I’m more involved in leading the growing logistics team. Our work involves receiving shipments of casings and loading the trucks that go to our customers with calibrated casings. It is important that the right cask ends up in the right truck. All casks look alike but their content varies greatly. The casks need to be organized in the right order. What I like about my work and what I get excited about is that, in a way, we have the last contact with our customers. We are the last phase. The entire supply chain finishes with our work. That’s a big responsibility and it’s important that we pay attention to what we do.
